What is your name? Kelsey MF Hickman

Who are your influences?

My mom and Shania Twain

Are you signed? I am not. I am an independent artist!

You released your new single “Novocaine,” tell us more about the single and the meaning behind the song. It’s a soul, sucking power ballads. A toxic love that you just can’t get rid of. Something that hurts so good.

Describe the track in two words. SLOW BURN.

What was the writing and recording process like? So, I was very hesitant to put out Novocaine without having written it, but after the production process, my fingerprints are all over this. I was meant to sing this song. Don Miggs, Detric Clarke, and Nick Brown allowed me to cut this badass song.

Who did you work with on the single? My producer Don Miggs introduced Novocaine to me, and originally it was a piano ballad. But after hearing those gut-punching words, I knew this had to be a power ballad with powerhouse vocals. A toxic love anthem, if you will. Don Miggs really helped me bring this song to life and created this dramatic build throughout the song. I wanted the audience to feel all the feels. Don brought in some of the most amazing session players. Sam Hunter, Mark Hill, and Miles McPherson absolutely nailed it. I couldn’t be more proud to have them on the song.

Will we see a music video for “Novocaine” and if so, what can we expect from the creative process? Yes, the music video will be released on Friday, March 24. I’m very excited to show the world this video. Once you hear the song, you’ll have this picture in your head of what it’s supposed to be like in the video that actually shows you what was going on in my head the whole time. I can’t wait for y’all to see me lose my shit for about 3 minutes. Lol

Will we see an EP or Album and if so, tell us more about it. Yes, you will be getting an EP from me this year, plus more. I have cooked up five new tunes with my producer, Don Miggs. I’ve never been more excited and proud to call these songs mine!
