Buzz Music LA Interviews Erin Duvall About "Too Little, Too Late"

Erin Duvall Walks The Thin Line Between Love And Hatred In “Too Little, Too Late”

The Nashville-based singer-songwriter teaches a valuable lesson about choosing personal happiness and supporting love, even when it fails you.

Although her path to happiness may have been winding, the proud mother of four celebrates every part of the journey she’s been through, good times and bad. She credits her journey with making her who she is today and displays the rare ability to flip adversity into something positive consistently.

Speaking on love, Duvall says, "The weight of the wrong person in your life can be crippling. It can strip you of who you are supposed to be and clip your wings down from allowing you to fly”. This ethos shows itself in Duvall’s work; speaking about the message behind “Too Little Too Late,” Duvall says it was written for anyone that has gone through a complex relationship and needed to find their way out.

It’s about some of the lessons Duvall has learned herself throughout her journey; it’s about the delicate dance we do working through life and the emotions of love, aversion and freedom that come with relationships. And more than anything else, it’s about growing to accept yourself and finding what inspires your true happiness.

Over instrumentals anchored by a good old country guitar, Duvall stands up for herself and cuts some dead relationship weight loose. Dropping lines like “I’m stronger than I thought I could be / Without this weight of you and me / I can fly like the bird I’m supposed to be,”

Duvall just wants you to know that you deserve to be happy! Whether that involves being in a relationship with someone else or simply how you think about yourself, Duvall wants you to know that “You are amazing and deserve nothing less.” Thanks, Erin; sometimes, we all need to be reminded.

Welcome to BuzzMusic, Erin. We loved “Too Little, Too Late,” and we love the empowering message you’re spreading! We have to ask, what does it mean to you to bring this kind of meaningful music to your fans?

This particular album is extraordinary, and means the world to me to share it with everyone. This album is about surviving the storms, but more importantly, it is about eventually learning to dance in the rain. This album was extremely cathartic for me and so incredibly empowering. So I hope anyone who hears it feels like a friend when they need one, strength when they can't pick themselves up, and the power to keep going and eventually fly to great heights. Self-love is not a selfish choice. It is a very important one. I had to learn the hard way and am grateful I did because I am much better in my relationships now.

How would you describe your music to first-time listeners?

My music is country to its core, but it nods its hat to all of the music I grew up on, from gospel to country to musical theatre to rock n roll. It will tug at your heartstrings and hit you with the honest truth. It will take you on a roller coaster of emotions and leave you feeling empowered.

If there’s one message you wanted fans to take away from your music, what would it be?

Life’s struggles do not define who you are but give you the strength to fly to extraordinary heights.

What was your favourite part about bringing “Too Little, Too Late” to life? What was the creative process behind it?

This song was written for anyone who had a difficult relationship and needed to find their way out. The song is a delicate dance working through the emotions of love, aversion, and, finally, freedom. I had lived with this melody and chorus for a long time, and when I finally paired with The Bakers Brothers, it was one of the first songs we wrote together. It just flowed out of us! I'm so excited for everyone to hear it!

What’s next for Erin Duvall? What do you have planned for the rest of 2023?

2023 is a big year, and we are so excited about everything we have going on. You can expect a lot from me this year. I have more new music coming (the next single will drop in May), the possibility of a very fun summer song, lots of important work with my charity, Twice the Love Foundation, including another great event, the start of a new podcast with very important conversations about life in a single household and as a single mom, and my animated children’s project finally making its debut. We are working hard and are excited to share everything with all of you!
