The DHB team overhauled Kelsey Hickman's entire brand and tone, with the first step being the strategic pairing with a producer who could capture her new sound and energy. We connected Kelsey with Don Miggs (known for work with Mick Fleetwood, Tower of Power), who helped shape an electrifying country-rock single, 'Novocaine,' that would showcase her revamped image as a fierce country-rocker.
Even though DHB press and digital marketing efforts ceased after her first single, Kelsey's brand awareness continued to grow as the coverage slowly circulated and built momentum (As cited in the gallery snapshot).The Dead Horse Branding team laid the groundwork for this by meticulously planning each aspect of her brand's evolution, releasing her first single in years, “Novocaine” and accompanying music video with streams reaching over 29K and over 22K views. DHB created a powerful, gradual buildup that became a "slow tornado" of brand building that increased brand awareness and built streams on all songs and music videos following the first single.
During the 'Novocaine' recording process, the DHB team also refreshed Kelsey's photoshoot, created a new EPK, designed a logo, creatively designed two music videos (“Novocaine” and “Love Is For Suckers”) developed merchandise, and launched a website to fully embody her country-rocker attitude. 'Novocaine' quickly resonated with both country and rock audiences, receiving over 50 media placements within its first six weeks. The music video for 'Novocaine' followed, with DHB crafting the creative treatment for the videography team to visually capture the song’s theme of "addictive love."
